Every memorable weekend by the water needs an accidental 23-kilometre hike and a non-accidental screening of one of my favourite films, Paolo Sorrentino's La Grande Bellezza.
Vine plants with aerial roots will grow tall and upright if supported by the presence of a natural vertical structure. Since introducing a moss pole at its centre, the Monstera's posture is unrivaled. Meanwhile, early days in the herb garden: baby basil, parsley, dill, sage, and a stubborn pot of lavender. Music-wise, I'm playing favourites.

In 1915, healer and rumoured voodoo priestess Julia Brown prophesies that she will take her entire town of Frenier with her when she dies. No one listens.
Years later, upon Julia's passing, everyone in town attends her funeral. The same day, the New Orleans Hurricane of 1915 strikes. The Category 4 storm sweeps through Louisiana, flattening small towns and killing all of the Frenier townsfolk. Locals believe Julia still haunts their swampland graveyard in LaPlace, Louisiana.
In Saulxures we ate tofaille vosgiennes and drank Vin d'Alsace and met newborn calves and stargazed from the mountains. I also stargazed at posters of Steven's uncle, winner of the 16th stage of the 1997 Tour de France. (Everyone in the family has a beautiful pair of legs.)
The first time I visited Paris, I hated it. But returning years later with a French man made all the difference. Now we reminisce about wandering up to the Sacré-Cœur with a bottle of wine before taking the night train to his beautiful mountain hometown in the northeast.

3, 4 — Artworks at the Dia:Beacon in Upstate New York. A factory-turned-minimalist art gallery perfectly suited to contemplative beasts like Andy Warhol's Shadows, Dan Flavin's flourescent light sculptures, Agnes Martin's soothingly neutral studies in grey and white.

Lost my way here on an overnight bus from Barcelona and found myself briefly stranded in Pamplona, home of the nation's most famous encierro. Spent the rest of my days here eating pintxos and napping naked on the beach.
